Speak Up! – Band 2 Challenge

Game Overview

Speak Up! is an interactive, fast-paced educational game designed to help students master Band 2 English vocabulary. It challenges participants to think on their feet, improve their speaking fluency, and integrate specific high-level words into natural conversation under time pressure.

Key Objectives

Vocabulary Integration: Students learn to use Band 2 words (like essential, evaluate, massive, and frequent) in context rather than just memorizing definitions.

Fluency Development: The 45-second timer encourages students to maintain a steady flow of speech, helping them overcome the "pause and translate" habit.

Creative Thinking: By starting with a random "Key Sentence," students must build a coherent and creative narrative or argument on the fly.

Confidence Building: The team-based competitive format creates a supportive and exciting environment where students feel motivated to "speak up."

How to Play

Select a Category: Teams choose from "Crazy Story," "Opinion," or "Under Pressure."

The Challenge: A prompt sentence is provided along with three specific Band 2 target words.

The Timer: Once the timer starts, the student must continue the story or argument, trying to include the target words naturally.

Scoring: Points are awarded for each target word used and a bonus is given for maintaining fluency throughout the entire turn.
